The Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy (Series) - Douglas Adams

Need I say more? This is a classic series and a must-read for nerds like me. It's full of cheeky British humor and definitely doesn't take itself too seriously. If you liked the 2005 movie, there's plenty more here for you - the movie only covers the tip of the iceberg, and some of what's in the movie isn't even in the books. If I had to say anything negative about them, it's that the books all have a similar tone and humor to them, so if you're reading them back-to-back it can get a little samey. 8/10.

Killobyte - Piers Anthony

A crippled former policeman and a diabetic young woman are able to overcome their disabilities by joining a virtual reality game called Killobyte. However, a malicious hacker decides to trap them inside the game, preventing them from logging out. They have to work together to beat the hacker at his game and escape from Killobyte. This one was pretty cheesy and weird in places but it was entertaining nonetheless. There's plenty of amusing unintentional anachronisms because the book was written in the early 90s - you read about virtual reality alongside dial-up internet and early 90s culture. The idea of multiplayer games was still relatively new then. I don't know if I'd recommend it on its literary merit, but as a light read to kill some time, it's okay. 4/10.

Lincoln McKeever - Eleazar Lipsky

Set in the late 1800s, this book tells the story of Lincoln McKeever, a seasoned East Coast lawyer, who takes an important case in New Mexico. I guess it could be called a Western, but it doesn't get too deep into cowboys and pistol duels either (although there are a few good scenes like that). It started off pretty slow and I considered giving up on it, but towards the middle and end things got more interesting. Overall I think I'd recommend it. 6/10.
